Fellowship
overview
Christiana Care offers
an academic and clinical fellowship in surgical
critical care and acute care surgery. This fully accredited, one-year program
for surgical critical care and two-year program for acute
care surgery provides superior, hands-on training for
physicians who wish to become highly skilled surgical intensivists as well as
educators and investigators in trauma and critical care disease. Successful
candidates will develop the ability to provide high-quality care in an
environment where value outcomes are increasingly
becoming the bottom line.
Drawing from a wide
range of patient-care experiences, a broad-based curriculum incorporates the latest advances in
technology for the management of the critically ill and the
politraumatized patients. Fellows will be trained in patient management as well
as in all invasive and non-invasive
diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.
Because Christiana Care is the largest teaching affiliate
of Jefferson Medical College, there is ample opportunity to teach
residents and medical students in a variety of settings. Over the
course of the fellowship, we encourage
our candidates to research.
Our aim is to prepare surgical intensivists and to
provide state-of-the-art critical care that recognizes the shared humanity
between doctor and patient, family and loved ones. Our philosophy in
educating physicians now and for the future combines excellence in patient
care with excellence in scholarship.
