Leading the way
To enhance and strengthen our ability to organize high quality, coordinated and cost-efficient cancer care, we built a state-of-the-science, outpatient cancer center on the Christiana Hospital campus.

Christiana Care Health System has always been the largest provider of cancer care and services in Delaware, with a proud history going back to our first cancer facility founded in 1935.

Today, we're also providing high quality cancer care and services to people from neighboring communities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.

Helen F. Graham Cancer Center
Christiana Care's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center centralizes a vast array of outpatient services under one roof, making care more convenient, efficient and effective.

The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center is located at 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713, on the Christiana Hospital campus. Once on hospital grounds, follow signs to the Cancer Center.

The Center features unique multidisciplinary medical services that include teams of specialists that you can see all in one visit including:

  • A surgeon who can order diagnostic tests, perform a biopsy to see if your tumor is malignant and/or operate to remove cancer if necessary.
  • A medical oncologist or hematologist who can give chemotherapy that kills the cancer cells.
  • A radiation oncologist who can pinpoint the places where your cancer is growing and use precisely focused X-rays to reduce or destroy it.

Together, these three cancer specialists, in consultation with your primary care physician, and in conjunction with your Cancer Care Management team will work with you to create the most appropriate and effective plan of treatment for your cancer.

In addition the center offers cancer research clinical trial opportunities as well as providing patients and their loved ones a full complement of associated support services, including:

  • Genetic counseling
  • Nutrition assessment and counseling
  • Psychological counseling
  • Pastoral care
  • Social services
  • Complementary medicine (acupuncture, spiritual guidance and massage therapy).

Also, a resource library for education, made possible by the Junior Board of Christiana Care, Inc., is available to the community at large, free of charge.

Translational research studies are extending the boundaries of what we know about cancer. Christiana Care and the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center are collecting human tissue samples to help scientists in their laboratories learn more about the growth and development of cancer. This expanding tissue banking effort is one of only two such non-university-based programs in the country. Increased tissue procurement will enhance the resources available for translational research studies that involve the application of basic science toward potential therapies. Read more about how clinicians at the Helen. F. Graham Cancer Center are collaborating with researchers at the University of Delaware to bring the latest advances in cancer treatment  from the laboratory to the bedside through the Center for Translational Cancer Research.
