The Christiana Care Wound Care Center provides technically advanced, surgical and non-surgical interdisciplinary outpatient care that is highly effective in healing wounds that resist conventional therapy. Our specialized team evaluates and treats the wound, and establishes measures to prevent recurrence.

Chronic non-healing wounds are wounds that have not shown improvement in four weeks or fail to heal in eight weeks. These include: neuropathic ulcers in patients with diabetes, ulcers on ischemic limbs (poor circulation), pressure ulcers (due to immobility) and venous stasis leg ulcers.

At the Wound Care Center we measure success by how well our patients heal:

  • More than 87% of our patients are discharged within the program's average length of stay benchmark. ( The average number of visits is between eight and 14 visits depending on size and severity of the wound and other medical factors)
  • The Christiana Care Wound Care Center has received four "National Healing Achievement Awards" for excellence for exceeding the national healing average among Wound Care Centers(r) in the United States.
  • Seven kinds of board-certified physician specialists in addition to a certified diabetes educator and certified wound care nurses can be found practicing within the Wound Care Center:
