With more than 7,000 new babies born at Christiana Hospital each year, we know what it takes to make the birth of your baby a positive and meaningful event for you and your family. We have one of the largest and most experienced maternity centers and neonatal intensive care units in the Delaware Valley. Our experience shows in everything we do. Throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery and after your baby is born, we offer a complete range of high-quality maternity and neonatal services.

Our highly skilled OB/GYN department is equipped with the latest technology and facilities, with 24-hour anesthesia support, to manage both high-risk and normal deliveries. All of our obstetricians are board-certified, and many hold academic appointments at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. They are assisted by a highly skilled team of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants and technicians. Certified perinatologists  who specialize in maternal/fetal medicine are available to help manage high-risk pregnancies, and our board-certified neonatologists are ready 24 hours a day to care for premature or sick newborns.

Our Nursing Staff

Labor and Delivery nurses and technicians are all cross-trained and rotate regularly through LDR, the OB operating  rooms, our perinatal special care unit and triage. The nurse-to-patient ratio is generally one to every two patients. Nurses have extensive training in both low- and high-risk obstetrical care. They are trained as labor coaches and in lactation support, and are certified in electronic fetal monitoring.
