PGY-1 Pharmacy
Practice
Christiana Care's PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program develops
the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to pursue rational drug
therapy. As a result, residents gain an advanced level of practical
training and experience. The core curriculum focuses on developing
competency in acute and ambulatory patient care, drug information, drug
use policy-making, and practice management. A flexible schedule of
required and elective rotations enhances proficiency to provide expert
pharmaceutical care. A strong academic approach combined with "hands on"
learning builds skill and fosters confidence.
Upon completion of the PGY-1 program, our graduates are competent
pharmacists who can share the responsibility and accountability for
optimal drug therapy outcomes. They are well-trained to effectively
participate in therapeutic decision-making and drug therapy monitoring
aimed at improving patient care and well-prepared to pursue further
subspecialty or fellowship training.
PGY-2 Critical Care
Christiana Care Health System PGY-2 pharmacy residency in critical care
is designed to equip the resident to care for critically ill patients in a
variety of sub-specialties as well as shape the future of our profession
by serving as mentors or academic faculty. You will work alongside and
learn from preceptors with advanced training in critical care as well as
other possible specialties (e.g., Infectious Disease, Medication Safety,
and Oncology). You will experience a variety of practice areas such as the
Medical Intensive Care Unit, the Surgical Critical Care Complex, the
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency
Department. Other training opportunities include precepting Pharm.D.
candidates, serving as a mentor and chief resident for the PGY-1 pharmacy
residents, and participation in various committees. These
opportunities will mold the resident to become a successful critical care
practitioner and leader.
Residents will also gain experience in other areas such as teaching
and developing and conducting a research project. Our program is
affiliated with the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and the
University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
