Fellowship overview
Christiana Care, a leader in health care education, offers a one-year
fellowship in sports medicine. Started in 2007, this program is
based in a fully-accredited family-medicine residency program
that is one of the oldest in the nation. The fellowship offers solid
experience in sports and recreation injuries as well as medical
conditions affecting athletes of all ages. Clinical exposure to exercise physiology, nutrition,
sports psychology and radiology is also
integral to the program.
Scholarly activity is integral to the program and is
assisted by the Health Services Research Group
within the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Sideline and mass-participation event coverage
is coordinated through the sports medicine group and our affiliate
site, Delaware State University. By the end of the training, fellows will
be able to work independently in
any sports-medicine practice environment.
We accept two candidates each year who have
graduated from an ACGME accredited program in family medicine, internal
medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, or physical medicine and
rehabilitation.
