Respite Programs and Adult Day Care for Alzheimer's

As a caregiver, you know that caring for someone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is exhausting. Respite-care services provide you with needed breaks from your caregiving duties. These services can be provided in the home or in an institutional setting such as a nursing home. The respite can range from a few hours a day to an entire week or more for vacationing.

Beyond providing you with respite, adult day programs can help your loved one by providing a variety of services and meaningful activities. Typically, adult day programs are held during weekdays and include snacks and a lunchtime meal. Programs also include enjoyable activities, such as arts and crafts, baking, gardening, singing and watching movies. Some programs are specifically designed for those with Alzheimer's disease, while others may be just for older adults. Before selecting a program, you should make sure that it is one that will meet your loved one's needs.

Christiana Care VNA provides respite and adult day care. Home health care

Christiana Care Visiting Nurse Association provides home health aides, skilled nursing, medical social work, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy, which includes treatment of cognitive communication and swallowing deficits. Services enable caregivers and persons with dementia to gain necessary understanding, skills, and support to maximize function, quality of life, and safety at home.
