Our Volunteers

College Volunteer Program

Christiana Care's College Volunteer Program offers many ways for students to make a difference year-round through community service. We strive to provide a constructive experience for each college student.

Volunteering at Christiana Care is an opportunity to meet new friends who share your interests, values and sense of purpose. You also have an opportunity to experience a diverse selection of career options within the health care system.

Our program is organized by sessions and volunteers are required to complete a minimum of 50 hours of service per session.  College students who wish to volunteer and have not volunteered with us before must first complete an online application. Once the application is received, students must register and attend an information/interview session and training class prior to beginning their volunteer experience. Due to the volume of college applications received, we cannot make any exceptions.

Our sessions are as follows:

• Spring Session (February 8 – May 31)
  Applications will be accepted beginning January 8.
• Summer Session (June 4- Sept 1)
  We are no longer accepting applications for the Summer 2012 College Program.
• Fall Session (Sept 6- December 31)
  Applications will be accepted beginning September 6.

If you have participated in our volunteer program and have completed a minimum of 50 hours, please call our office to schedule an appointment.

January term volunteers

This intensive 50-hour volunteer experience during the month of January is a great opportunity for students who have this month free from classes and other commitments. A limited number of spots are available for the January term volunteer program. Students must be available to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per week.  We will begin to accept 2013 applications in December 2012.

Health Care Scholars Volunteer Program

We are no longer accepting applications for Health Care Scholars Program. 

This unique opportunity is available to college students who are exploring health care careers and who have already volunteered 50 hours in a health care setting. (This volunteer experience does not need to be at Christiana Care, but documentation of the volunteer hours completed is required). The program runs from June 11 through August 17.

The Health Care Scholars volunteer program includes:

• One five-hour shift each week of the program.
• Shadowing a health care professional.
• Observing a surgery at the Wilmington Hospital operating room.
• Other educational opportunities.
