Hand Therapy

Comprehensive hand therapy includes hand and upper-body rehabilitation, occupational therapy and work conditioning. Our certified hand therapists provide skilled rehabilitation for injuries and post-operative procedures, as well as other common problems associated with disease or upper-body trauma. We also offer treatment and consultation for conditions such as:

Tendon repair, graft or transfer.
Burns, wounds and scars.
Carpal tunnel syndrome.
Brachial plexus and nerve injuries.
Carpal instability.
Complex trauma, fractures, amputations and replantations.
Central nervous system impairment, including SCI, CVA, MS and ALS.

We offer state-of-the-art therapeutic treatment, including:

Fluidotherapy.
Kinesio Tex taping.
Iontophoresis.
Ultrasound.
Neuromuscular electrical nerve stimulation.
Manual edema mobilization.
Custom dynamic splint fabrication.
Elbow and shoulder surgery.

Getting started

After a thorough evaluation, your certified hand therapist will create an individualized treatment plan based on the diagnosis, protocol and functional goals. Your therapy will focus on acheiving the highest quality of function, and on preventing re-injury. Your hand therapist will keep you informed about your progress, and she will communicate with your doctor or case manager as appropriate.

In addition to our standard evaluation for therapy, we will schedule specialized evaluations for clients who need further specific assessment, such as:

Semmes-Weinstein monofilament sensory mapping.
Dynamometry full effort testing.
Hand function evaluations.
Work/task analysis.

The Christiana Care comprehensive hand therapy program adheres to the guidelines of the American Society of Hand Therapists and the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.
