Our Services

Health Ministries

Christiana Care's Health Ministries program helps congregations and faith communities foster health and well-being among their spiritual families. We respect the role of the community congregation as a place of healing—for the mind, body and spirit. We partner with churches, mosques, synagogues and temples to promote wellness and provide faith-based, quality health care.

Would you like to establish a health ministry in your congregation?

By providing training and support, we can help you to establish health-ministry programs suited to your congregation's needs and interests. We also provide continuing education for the people in your congregation who are part of your health ministry, including parish nurses, health-ministry coordinators and congregational or community-health advocates.

Once your program is up and running, we offer ongoing counseling and support. This includes:

  • Providing speakers for your group on a variety of topics, including HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, cancer prevention, heart disease, trauma prevention, depression, and women and children's health.
  • Support for pastoral care at home and in the hospital as a source of healing to the members of your faith community.
  • Linking your congregation to wellness and health information resources.
  • Assisting with referrals to community health agencies and services.
  • Facilitating support networks with local and national health-ministry organizations, such as Delaware Regional Health Ministries Catholic Charities, Parish Nurse Program, National Health Ministries Association and International Paris Nurse Resource Center.
  • Ongoing training for your volunteers.

Caring, spiritually mature people who are respected by the faith community and valued for their insight and compassion are important to the success of your congregation's health ministry program. You may already have specially trained members who carry out the role of a health minister, such as a parish registered nurse or a designated health coordinator, community advocate or social-concerns committee member. Anyone in your congregation who is interested in the health and welfare of your faith community is encouraged to learn more about Christiana Care's Health Ministries program.
