Visiting Nurse Association
Home Rehabilitation for Hip or Knee Replacement
The Visiting Nurse Association has helped thousands of patients from Christiana Care's Center for Advanced Joint Replacement to recover safely and comfortably at home after hip or knee replacement. No matter where you had your joint-replacement surgery, you will appreciate the experienced care of our rehabilitative team during this challenging but exciting time, as you regain your ability to walk without the pain of arthritis.
We help with exercises and flexibility training to maintain good range of motion in the recovering joint. And we help to keep the wound clean and manage medications. Our therapists can also help with care for arthritis, muscle atrophy and broken bones that are healing.
After you return home from the hospital after a hip or knee replacement, our team of home-health therapists will continue your surgeon's plan of care. Our therapists will evaluate your home environment and make safety recommendations. During each home visit, we will assess your surgical incision and the amount of pain you are experiencing. We will continue to advance your exercise program to increase your range of motion and rebuild your strength. And we will progress your ability to walk with a walker or cane, with the goal of enabling you to safely exit your home and return to the community.
