Research & Publications

Publications: A staff member of the Department of Medicine oversees the research activities of the medical house staff.

Meetings: The Department of Medicine will reimburse the cost of transportation and lodging for residents (first author) with abstracts accepted at national meetings.

Resident Research: The Department of Medicine Research Committee annually offers up to $5000 per project for residents' research. In addition, a research elective is offered in the PGY 2 and PGY 3 years to allow residents time to prepare case reports, initiate research proposals/projects, etc.

Clinical Research Fellowship(s): The Medical Research Institute of Delaware is a cooperative venture among Christiana Care Health System, Jefferson, DuPont Co., ICI Americas, University of Delaware and the state of Delaware, and offers 1-2 Clinical Research Fellowships annually to Christiana Care Health System residents. The institute is located at the Christiana Hospital.

Research Activities: Investigators from the Department of Medicine participate in more than 300 clinical research studies involving well over 3,000 patients.

Below is a listing of selected publications, presentations and abstracts of our core internal-medicine faculty. This list includes many house staff associated publications and activities. Our faculty encourages and welcomes the residents into their trials and research activities. In addition, we have listed a sample of ongoing house staff research protocols for your review.

The Department of Medicine's faculty currently sponsors over 300 protocols in all subspecialty fields. These protocols reflect both laboratory based as well as interventional and diagnostic clinical trials. Information on specific areas of faculty research is available by request if a particular area of research is of interest to an applicant.
