Application Process
Applications are accepted annually from Sept. 1 to Dec. 15.
Applicants will be notified of the decision no later than Feb. 1, and successful candidates will begin the fellowship on July 1. Applicants must have completed their emergency medicine residency training by June 30.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment toward the improvement and development of emergency medicine abroad, experience working in an international emergency medicine setting and an interest in addressing health disparities within resource-poor countries.
Selection will be based on:
- Academic excellence.
- Teaching experience.
- Research and publishing history.
- International work.
- Clinical expertise.
How to apply
Applications should include the following material:
- Curriculum vitae.
- Three letters of recommendation addressing your experience and abilities working in international settings, designing and carrying out research projects, teaching and leadership skills, and clinical experience and expertise. One letter must be from the applicant's emergency medicine residency program director, and one letter must be from an international hospital or institution where the applicant has relevant experience. Letters of recommendation should be e-mailed directly from the author to the fellowship director at susthompson@christianacare.org.
- A personal statement (maximum 1,000 words) that elucidates why you wish to pursue a fellowship in international emergency medicine, your experiences, your understanding of the challenges involved with IEM, your career goals and your personal qualities.
