No Heart Left Behind
Did you know that almost every minute, a woman dies from cardiovascular disease? More women than men will die within the first year after a heart attack. And only 13 percent of women think of heart disease as a potential health threat.
In an ongoing effort to improve heart health among women, Christiana Care's No Heart Left Behind program encourages all women to take charge of their heart health. The program is the brainchild of Dr. Kathleen McNicholas, a cardiac surgeon who underwent open-heart surgery herself in her mid-50s, and has since become a strong advocate for helping women to prevent heart disease.
The No Heart Left Behind program comes in two versions:
The school-based program
The coach/teammate version of the program is run through participating high schools. Teens act as health coaches for their mothers and teach them about cardiovascular health. To learn more about this version of the program, or to find out how your school can participate, call 302-428-6506.
The individual program
The No Heart Left Behind individual program is a free, self-guided version that helps you to learn about heart health and take steps to improve it. This eight-week program consists of weekly e-mails that will educate you about the risk factors, symptoms and prevention of heart disease. The program will challenge you to adopt your own heart-healthy habits. To enroll in this free program, read the expectations statement below, and then fill out and submit the online enrollment form.
