Michael N. Marcus, M.D.
Interim Chair of Psychiatry
Michael N. Marcus, M.D., has served as the Interim Chair of Psychiatry since June, 2013. Prior to this appointment, he was the medical director of the Christiana Care Outpatient Psychiatric Practice for the Center for Comprehensive Behavioral Health.
Dr. Marcus is board-certified to provide general psychiatry services and addiction psychiatry. He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of:
- Affective disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder.
- Psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia.
- Medical comorbidities, which are non-psychiatric conditions affecting a person’s health at the same time as a psychiatric illness.
A 1986 graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Marcus completed his post-graduate training in psychiatry at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Christiana Care in 1996.
In addition to treating patients, he is a distinguished teacher and lecturer, and has received awards from several medical schools for his dedication to education. In 2005, he received the New Directions Professional of the Year award for education provided to patients and families. New Directions is a support group for people with depression or bipolar disorder.
