Daniel J. Elliott, M.D., MSCE, FACP

Daniel Elliott, M.D., MSCE, is a member of Christiana Care’s internal medicine-pediatrics faculty and the co-director for ambulatory medicine research and clinical outcomes. He is also acting associate chair of research at Christiana Care.
Dr. Elliott earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 2001 and a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2008 with a concentration in outcomes research.
Dr. Elliott completed his internship in internal medicine and pediatrics at Christiana Care in 2002 and his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Christiana Care and DuPont Hospital for Children in 2005. He was chief resident in internal medicine at Christiana Care from 2005-2006. From 2006-2008, he was a Fellow in the General Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania Division of General Internal Medicine.
In 2010, he was appointed assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University as well as senior fellow at Jefferson’s School of Population Health.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Elliott is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Medical Association. He is an associate member of the Society of General Internal Medicine where he has held numerous leadership positions, including on the regional meeting program planning and workshop committees. He is the chair and host of the mid-Atlantic regional meeting in 2012 held at Christiana Care.
Dr. Elliott holds numerous teaching positions at Christiana Care. Since 2008, he has been faculty physician preceptor in the Adult Medicine Office and preceptor for the third-year medical student’s internal medicine clerkship. He has served as a preceptor of the physical diagnostics course for second-year students and course director for Introduction to Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine for the Internal Medicine Residents. The Department of Medicine named him co-director of resident research in 2011.
He has published research studies in numerous peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications, including American Heart Journal, Journal of Pediatrics, American Journal of Medical Quality and American Journal of Kidney Diseases.
Dr. Elliott is principal investigator in research projects in diabetes management and hypertension and studying the relationship between hospitalist workload and the quality of inpatient care and nurse navigator intervention in the emergency department.
Since 2010, Dr. Elliott has been on the Advisory Council of the Center for Naval Analyses Health Action Partnership of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. In 2011, he became a member of the regional experts panel at AHRQ that promotes patient-centered outcomes research.
