First-year residents receive competitive resident stipend with increases each successive year. Christiana Care offers competitive salaries and benefits for residents and fellows.

- PGY 1: $54,529.00
- PGY 2: $56,044.00
- PGY 3: $58,753.00
- PGY 4: $61,646.00
- PGY 5: $64,585.00
- PGY 6: $67,707.00
- PGY 7: $70,968.00
Residents and fellows are eligible for most employee benefits, with the exception of tuition assistance. These benefits or the eligibility conditions may be changed to conform to legal requirements or the Christiana Care Benefit Plan and Human Resources policies. The administration of benefits is governed by the Plan documents, hospital policies, and current legislation.
Other benefits may vary by department and may include:
- Annual allowance for scientific meetings and books.
- Meals and room accommodations while on call.
Time away from work
Residents and fellows receive up to three weeks of paid personal time annually. This time may be used for vacation or personal reasons, holidays or absences due to illness not covered under the paid sick time program. Paid personal time is not carried over from one academic year to the next. Generally paid personal time should be requested in advance and approved by the program director.
Residents and fellows are entitled to five days of paid time to attend conferences and other educational events approved by the program director.
Residents and fellows also receive up to three weeks annually of paid sick time, which may be used when a resident or fellow is unable to attend to his or her assigned duties due to their own medical condition to include medical recovery from childbirth. Time may be used after the 24th consecutive scheduled work hour of paid personal time.
