Mind, Body and Spirit Wellness Program Multi-Disciplinary Center

Complementary health (or complementary medicine) refers to the many therapies available that may supplement conventional medicine to promote healing and bring your mind, body and spirit into harmony. Because people want to participate in their own healing process and choose therapies they think may work best for them, there is a great demand to know more about the broad range of complementary health philosophies, approaches and therapies.

In just a single appointment, our program can provide you with information and education about these therapies so that you can make informed choices. During your 90-minute complementary health resources session, we will:

  • Discuss and focus on your specific areas of interest.
  • Help you determine what problems or issues may be addressed through complementary health therapies.
  • Provide a thorough overview of the many complementary health disciplines.
  • Review the data related to each one that explains harm vs. effectiveness.
  • Give you the tools you need to select a provider, including information-packed kits.

Complementary health therapies at a glance

  • Mind-body therapies are based on the belief that your mind is able to affect your body. These therapies include meditation, biofeedback, hypnosis, yoga, imagery and creative outlets.
  • Biologically-based practices are related to making the most of elements found in nature, including dietary supplements (vitamins), herbal products, foods and special diets.
  • Manipulative and body-based practices involve working with one or more parts of the body, including massage, chiropractic care and reflexology (foot therapies).
  • Energy medicine is based on the belief that the body has energy fields that can be used for healing and wellness. Therapists use pressure or move the body by placing their hands in or through these fields. Examples include tai chi, reiki and therapeutic touch.
  • Whole-body systems are healing systems and beliefs that have evolved in different cultures around the globe. They include Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, homeopathy and naturopathic medicine.
