Center for Community Health

The Christiana Care Center for Community Health is dedicated to improving the health of all individuals we serve by assisting them in accessing appropriate health care services, providing health care education and promotion, and by participating in community-based research. The Center for Community Health helps to inform policy makers and community leaders about local health challenges, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and serve as a foundation for evidence-based practices that improve the health and overall quality of life among those who live in the communities we serve.

The Center for Community Health offers more than 20 programs throughout Delaware. These programs focus on health and wellness and teach consumers to identify health risks, provide them with strategies to address those risks and teach health advocacy skills for themselves and their families. 

The Center is responsible for the management of nine school-based health centers in New Castle County in collaboration with the Delaware Division of Public Health. Additionally it coordinates the health care services in Delaware's juvenile correctional facilities.

Our programs

Our multidisciplinary team allows us to provide services ranging from prevention education and train-the-trainer classes to advocacy and wellness programs.

Programs focus primarily on women's health, heart health, cancer and bone and joint health. Many classes encourage you to prevent medical problems. Classes include opportunities to exercise, improve your diet and learn how to reduce your risk for serious medical conditions or better manage diseases you already have. You can also find out how to prevent or prepare for pregnancy or improve your parenting skills.

In 2007, the center served more than 15,000 Delaware residents.

Our funding

Christiana Care covers the costs associated with many of the programs operated through the Center for Community Health. Federal, state and private grants also support programs.
