Visiting Nurse Association
Why Choose Christiana Care Visiting Nurse Association?
Christiana Care VNA provides a wide variety of services throughout the community, including home care, private-duty services and adult day care.
Regardless of who provided your previous care or where you might have been referred, federal law guarantees you the freedom to select the home-care provider of your choice. Once you consider our services, specialized programs, credentials, history and commitment to serving the people of Delaware, we hope that you will choose Christiana Care VNA to provide the healing power of home.
When choosing your home health care provider, ask these questions:
What capabilities does the provider have?
The Christiana Care Visiting Nurse Association provides skilled nursing care, home health aides, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and medical social workers—all backed by the Christiana Care name that you trust. Our specialized nursing programs include: cardiac; diabetes; cancer care with a focus on pain and symptom management, treatment and support; wound care; infusion therapy; telehealth; and dementia care. VNA clinicians use state-of-the-art technology, including digital photography to assess wound management, mobile computing and telehealth for cardiac and respiratory monitoring.
Is the provider certified by the Joint Commission?
The Joint Commission's Home Care Accreditation Program is the gold standard in home health care accreditation. The Visiting Nurse Association is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, which means that we have undergone the commission's thorough evaluation and have been recognized as meeting its high standards of quality and safety.
How long has the provider been in business?
We have been serving the people of Delaware since 1922, and as a part of Christiana Care Health System, we are backed by the resources of the state's largest health care system.
How does the provider serve the community?
In addition to our individual services for at-home health care, we extend a helping hand to all age groups through community-based programs. This includes adult day care, Evergreen Memory Center for Alzheimer's disease treatment, regularly scheduled support groups and our Caregivers Series of educational and support events for caregivers.
Is the agency certified by Medicare and licensed by the state?
We are fully certified by Medicare and licensed by the state of Delaware.
How does the agency ensure quality? Do supervisors inspect care?
VNA has a vigorous quality-control program meeting Joint Commission standards and an active performance-improvement committee that identifies goals and areas of focus and reports to the VNA board.
How often does the provider communicate with my doctor?
VNA professionals communicate with physicians initially at the start of service or when there are changes in the patient's condition. We speak to the physician to modify the plan of care.
What procedures are in place to handle emergencies?
We teach patients and caregivers what to do in the event of an emergency, and we develop an emergency plan with them. Members of our clinical staff are on call for phone advice at all times.
Are the agency caregivers available 24 hours a day?
No matter when you need the help and support of the Visiting Nurse Association, we are standing by to serve you. Call us any time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Are services available for extended hours of care?
The VNA has private-duty nursing and home-health-aide services available for anyone who would like to privately pay for services that are not covered under their insurance policy. We also offer a private-duty nursing service for children with skilled special needs. Please call us to find out more about these services.
