LifeNet Air-Medical Transport

Christiana Care LifeNet, an affiliate of Air Methods' LifeNet Medical Transport System, provides round-the-clock critical-care intra-facility and on-scene emergency air transportation in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Based from Christiana Hospital and Georgetown Airport in Georgetown, Del., the flight program is recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS). Christiana Care also operates a helipad at Wilmington Hospital.

Each Christiana Care LifeNet flight team includes a pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic. During rapid air transport, this highly skilled flight team provides patients with emergency critical care. Flight teams are equipped an array of critical-care equipment and techology, including:

  • Ventilator.
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.
  • Swan-Ganz Catheter.
  • Temporary Pacemaker.
  • Bi-Ventricular Assist Device.
  • Intracranial Ventriculostomy.
  • Rapid Sequence Intubation.
  • Transfusing Blood Product.
  • High Risk Pregnancy Transports.

During an emergency, the Flight Team is trained to begin and sustain life-saving procedures, such as:

  • Cardioversion/defibrillation/pacing.
  • Needle chest decompression.
  • Cricothyroidotomy.
  • Intraosseous IV sites.
  • IV medication/medication drips.

Safety

The top priority of Christiana Care LifeNet pilots is to transport the patient and flight crew safely. For safety requirements, Christiana Care LifeNet helicopters request a minimum landing space of 75 square feet.

About the aircraft

Air Methods supplies Christiana Care LifeNet with two MBB/Kawasaki BK 117 aircraft. Each aircraft is 43 feet long, weighs 7,055 pounds and has an approximately 300-mile range. Its main rotor, mounted 10 feet above ground level, has a 36-foot-long diameter and a 6-foot rear-rotor height.

Access Center

Christiana Care LifeNet, with assistance from LifeCom, operates an access center 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer all emergency and non-emergency calls: 800-428-0911
